You understand as a child and you grow up knowing that something is different, but beautiful at the same time... I knew my parents weren't together, but they did there best to do for me and give me access to their lives. Today my son is growing up the same way, but his mother and I have a great relationship, and it translates into healthy, but needed conversations about how we handle raising him together, even if we aren't in the same place at that same time... Speaking negatively about a parent to a child is irresponsible. Regardless, if a parent’s behavior is not always in the best interest of the child, it should never be discussed with children. This is a discussion that should take place between the parents. I know that it can be difficult growing up without having both parents in the household, my heart goes out to those children. Children need to feel a sense of love from both parents. It is the responsibility of the parents to be consistent and have a constant presence in their children’s lives.
