Two weeks ago on Twitter a friend of mine retweeted this question:

I replied in all caps with an exclamation point: HYPE!
Why does the media suddenly have a fascination with our love lives?
I don’t know.
Am I annoyed by the coverage?
Yes.
Do I have anything else to add to this discussion?
No.
Like many women I know, I’m irritated with how the media has recklessly handled the subject of black women and marriage. I decided I was done reading, watching, listening, and talking about it, for now.
But then…
While catching up on my blog reading, I discovered the headline “Hurt people hurt people: The Jimi Izrael and Ak incident” on my friend Akiba Solomon’s blog, Small. Medium. Large.
I couldn’t resist.
I learned that Akiba went on Michael Eric Dyson’s radio show to talk about the controversy with Mr. Izrael, author of The Denzel Principle: Why Black Women Can’t Find Good Black Men.
I took a deep breath.
I listened to the audio and I could feel my blood boiling. Check out the audio for yourself (below).
Akiba Solomon and Jimi Izrael – Michael Eric Dyson Show, The Media and Single Black Women
You can take an educated guess on who I sided with, but that’s not the point. I think the take away from this exchange is something my friend stated in her blog title, hurt people hurt people.
There’s a larger issue here that the media is too shallow to talk about. ABC News and The Economist, please report on that!
Now I’m done.
